Lagos adjusts traffic plan as Ogudu–Ifako Bridge repairs resume

Repair works on the Ogudu–Ifako Bridge in Kosofe Local Government Area is set to resume on Wednesday, September 3, following adjustments to the traffic management plan by the Lagos State Government.

The project, which was suspended two weeks ago, had been halted after severe gridlock and security incidents were recorded during the initial phase. Motorists reported prolonged travel times, while traffic robbers exploited the congestion to attack stranded vehicles.

Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, said on Tuesday that the government had reviewed its diversion strategy to ease movement and restore order around the construction zone.

“Traffic will generally flow except around the work site. Vehicles will be diverted into one lane of the three-lane carriageway about 50 metres before the repair section and will regain full access shortly after,” he explained.

Osiyemi also outlined alternative routes for motorists heading to Oshodi, Victoria Island, and other parts of Lagos, adding that traffic officers would be on ground to enforce diversions and assist road users.

The government assured that lessons had been learned from the earlier disruption and that it was working closely with security agencies to prevent criminal activity during the partial closure.

The Ogudu–Ifako Bridge is undergoing phased rehabilitation under the state’s broader programme to strengthen road infrastructure across Lagos.
