John Terry Confirms End to First-Team Coaching Ambitions, Embraces Academy Role at Chelsea

Chelsea icon John Terry has revealed that he has moved on from his aspirations of becoming a first-team manager, citing frustration over the lack of opportunities since hanging up his boots.
The 44-year-old, who enjoyed a decorated playing career at Stamford Bridge with 17 major trophies to his name, admitted that his coaching journey has not unfolded as expected following retirement.
After his playing days, Terry served as assistant to Dean Smith at Aston Villa, playing a key role in the club’s promotion to the Premier League. When he departed in the summer of 2021, there was widespread anticipation that he would soon step into a head coach role. However, despite being linked with several managerial positions, nothing has materialized.
Terry is now focused on his role as a part-time coaching consultant within Chelsea’s academy, where he mentors young players and imparts his wealth of experience.
Speaking in an interview with The Sun, he said: “I’m done in terms of coaching. I’m enjoying my life, I’m working in the Chelsea academy. My role’s a part-time role, I love working with the kids, I love passing on my knowledge and experience to those boys. I went for a couple of jobs and those days are gone for me.”
