Bayelsa United have attributed delays in settling some financial obligations to limited resources, saying the club initially focused on players who had valid contracts.
Club chairman Dr Tarila Singabele disclosed this in a statement issued by his media adviser, Ebi Avi.
He explained that the approach was adopted to promote stability within the squad, while the club simultaneously undertook a comprehensive overhaul of its backroom staff.
According to the club, the restructuring was aimed at meeting the technical and administrative requirements for securing promotion to the Nigeria Premier Football League next season.
“When this new management came on board, we had limited resources at our disposal. In line with best practice, we prioritised players with valid contracts to ensure team stability,” Singabele said in the statement.
“At the same time, we commenced a full restructuring of the backroom staff to align with the technical and administrative demands of returning to the NPFL. That process affected the immediate payment timeline.
“We urge everyone involved to remain calm. In no distant time, the matter will be fully resolved and payments discharged.”
