Ahmed Musa to Lead Super Eagles at Unity Cup in London

Kano Pillars forward Ahmed Musa is set to return to the Nigerian national team as he is expected to captain the Super Eagles at the upcoming Unity Cup exhibition tournament, scheduled to take place from May 26 to 31 in the United Kingdom.
The announcement was made by Kano Pillars on Monday through a statement on their official X (formerly Twitter) account.
“Captain Ahmed Musa is set to lead the Super Eagles at the Unity Cup Four-Nation Tourney from May 26–31, 2025, at Brentford Stadium, London,” the club posted.
Musa has been in fine form for Kano Pillars (Sai Masu Gida) in the ongoing 2024/25 Nigeria Premier Football League season, having scored eight goals and registered two assists.
The veteran forward last featured for the Super Eagles on January 8, 2024, in a pre-AFCON 2023 friendly match against Guinea. Although he was part of Nigeria’s squad for the Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast, where the team finished as runners-up, Musa did not get any playing time during the tournament.
Having been a mainstay in the national team setup for over a decade, Musa’s current performances in the NPFL have re-established him as one of the league’s standout players. His leadership will be vital, particularly in the absence of several Europe-based regulars who are still concluding their club seasons.
The Nigeria Football Federation has not yet released the official squad for the Unity Cup, but it is widely speculated that the team will largely consist of home-based players.
Nigeria will compete in the four-nation exhibition tournament alongside long-time rivals Ghana, as well as Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago. Matches will be played at the G-tech Community Stadium, home to English Premier League side Brentford.
The Super Eagles are set to take on Ghana in their first fixture on Wednesday, May 28, following the opening match between Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago on Tuesday, May 27.
