In a bold and inspiring move, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has appointed Nigerian football legend Ahmed Musa as the new General Manager of Kano Pillars Football Club, marking a significant shift in the club’s leadership and long-term ambitions.
The announcement, made on Friday via a statement from the governor’s spokesperson Sanusi Bature Tofa, follows the dissolution of the previous management board, whose tenure ended after a one-year term.
The restructuring is part of a larger strategic overhaul aimed at repositioning the club as a dominant force in Nigerian football.
“This is more than a routine reshuffle. It’s a transformative decision to fuse elite football knowledge with visionary administration,” the governor’s statement read. “Ahmed Musa’s appointment reflects our commitment to attracting investment, motivating players, and reigniting fan enthusiasm.”
Musa, a former Super Eagles captain and the only Nigerian to have scored in two FIFA World Cups, is no stranger to Kano Pillars.
He began his professional career at the club before rising to international prominence with stints in the English Premier League (Leicester City), Russian Premier League (CSKA Moscow), and Turkish Süper Lig (Sivasspor, Al Nassr).
His return in a leadership role has sparked celebration among supporters and across the footballing community.
Reacting to the appointment, Musa expressed heartfelt appreciation and a firm resolve to deliver.
“Kano Pillars has always been part of my story,” he said. “To return in this capacity is a tremendous honour. I believe with the right structures, discipline, and support, we can elevate this club to new heights. The talent is there. The passion is there. Now, it’s about vision and execution.”
Alongside Musa’s appointment, a 17-member board has been inaugurated to steer the club’s operations. The board will be chaired by Ali Umar (Nayara) and includes a mix of fresh faces and returning members, recognised for their contribution to the club’s respectable 9th-place finish in the just-concluded Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season.
Among the retained figures are Salisu Mohammed Kosawa, Yusuf Danladi (Andy Cole), Idris Malikawa Garu, Nasiru Bello, and Muhammad Ibrahim (Hassan West). Hamza Abdulkarim Audi Chara joins as a new appointee.
Long-serving media directors Abubakar Isah Dandago Yamalash and Ismail Abba Tangalash also continue in their roles, ensuring continuity in the club’s communications and outreach.
Governor Yusuf charged the new leadership with raising the standards of professionalism, accountability, and fan engagement at the club.
“We’ve brought together a team of proven performers and respected voices in football. Kano Pillars deserves to be at the top. With this board, we are confident the club will become a national powerhouse again,” the governor stated. “They have our full backing to take bold steps that will drive sustainable success.”
As the new era begins under the stewardship of Ahmed Musa, fans across Nigeria – and particularly in Kano – are hopeful that this blend of experience, passion, and leadership will spark a renaissance for one of the country’s most storied football clubs.
