With the 2027 general elections drawing closer, Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang has formally activated the All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign machinery in the state, charging party leaders and stakeholders to intensify grassroots mobilisation and pursue victory through peaceful, issue-based campaigns.
Mutfwang gave the charge on Monday, November 2, 2026, while inaugurating the APC Campaign Council at the Government House, Rayfield, Jos, bringing together party chieftains, political stakeholders and campaign coordinators to begin preparations for the forthcoming elections.
The campaign structure is expected to drive support for the re-election of President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima, as well as Mutfwang, his deputy, Josephine Piyo, and other APC candidates contesting National and State Assembly seats.
Addressing party members, the Governor expressed gratitude to Plateau residents for their support, insisting that his administration had made significant progress but required another term to complete ongoing projects and consolidate its development agenda.
He described governance as a continuous process, arguing that successive administrations should build on existing achievements rather than undermine the efforts of their predecessors.
On security, Mutfwang acknowledged the persistent threats confronting parts of Plateau State but assured residents that his government was strengthening efforts to protect lives and property.
He disclosed that arrangements were being made to facilitate the return of internally displaced persons (IDPs) to their ancestral communities, while at least 800 trained forest guards would soon be deployed to reinforce security in vulnerable areas.
The Governor also announced plans to inaugurate another batch of retrained Operation Rainbow personnel as part of efforts to improve the state’s security response.
Turning to the country’s economic challenges, Mutfwang acknowledged the hardship associated with ongoing reforms under the Tinubu administration but maintained that the measures were necessary to address longstanding structural and fiscal weaknesses.
He highlighted several interventions introduced by his government to ease the pressure on residents, including the Tin City Metro bus service, the restoration of rail operations within Jos metropolis, a 50 per cent reduction in tuition fees across state-owned tertiary institutions and a 300 per cent increase in student allowances.
The Governor urged APC members to close ranks and concentrate their political activities at the grassroots, stressing that electoral success would depend largely on effective mobilisation at ward and polling-unit levels.
He cautioned campaign council members against political hostility and arrogance, urging them to engage voters respectfully while communicating the achievements, policies and programmes of APC-led administrations.
Earlier, the Director-General of the Mutfwang/Piyo 2027 Governorship Campaign Council, Sir Joseph Ari, pledged to lead a disciplined and well-coordinated campaign anchored on teamwork, organisation and collective responsibility.
Ari praised the Governor’s Time Is Now development agenda, describing unity, mutual respect and peaceful coexistence as critical to the state’s long-term progress.
He revealed that the campaign council had received endorsements and expressions of support from 115 support groups, alongside solidarity visits and commitments from traditional rulers, religious leaders, women, youths and other organised associations.
According to him, the campaign would prioritise factual communication, inclusive participation and issue-driven engagement while avoiding political attacks and unnecessary bitterness.
Ari also called on APC supporters and residents to turn out in large numbers on November 14, 2026, to welcome President Tinubu, Vice President Shettima, APC National Chairman Professor Nentawe Yilwatda and other senior party officials during their scheduled visit to Plateau State.
In his remarks, Plateau APC Chairman, Hon. Rufus Bature, described the inauguration as a significant milestone in the party’s preparations for the 2027 elections.
He urged members of the campaign council to demonstrate loyalty, accountability and commitment while strengthening the party’s structures across polling units and communities.
Bature further assured party stakeholders that the campaign structure remained open to accommodating additional members as political activities gathered momentum.
The inauguration signals the beginning of a coordinated APC mobilisation drive in Plateau State, with the party seeking to consolidate its political strength and secure renewed mandates at both the state and federal levels in 2027.
