ADC Accuses APC of Using Opposition Governors to Advance One-Party Agenda

Nigeria’s multiparty democracy is under threat, the African Democratic Congress Presidential Campaign Council (ADC-PCC) has warned, accusing the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of plotting to establish a one-party state through its expanded presidential campaign council.

The ADC-PCC alleged that the APC was undermining democratic competition by pressuring opposition governors to align with the ruling party or listing them as members of its campaign structure without their consent.

In a statement on Wednesday, the council’s Director of Media and Publicity, Kola Ologbondiyan, described the alleged move as political abduction, accusing the APC of deploying state power to weaken opposition parties and tighten its grip on power.

He further alleged that national institutions, security agencies and the judiciary were being used against political opponents, warning that such actions threatened democratic institutions and the right to dissent.

Ologbondiyan also accused the ruling party of placing its political survival above the welfare of Nigerians battling economic hardship, hunger and insecurity.

He alleged that growing intolerance of opposing views, harassment of opposition figures and the weakening of democratic institutions for partisan interests were threatening the country’s democratic space.
