Veteran Nollywood actress Ronke Oshodi-Oke has offered a glimpse into the lesser-known side of filmmaker and actress Funke Akindele, describing her as generous and compassionate despite her firm personality.
Speaking during an interview on African A-List, Ronke acknowledged that Funke is known for being strict, but said people who have a close relationship with her are familiar with her kinder side.
According to the actress, Funke often goes out of her way to encourage people and improve their mood, particularly those who visit her home.
Ronke also said Funke’s generosity extends beyond her immediate circle and the entertainment industry, noting that she has seen the filmmaker assist people she encounters on social media.
The veteran actress recalled receiving financial support from Funke during a period when she was dealing with an illness.
Ronke said the assistance was given privately and was not something Funke sought to publicise.
She stressed that her comments were based on her personal experience and were not connected to any recent professional collaboration between them.
According to Ronke, she has not featured in any of Funke’s recent movie productions, making her account, in her view, independent of any current working relationship.
Describing Funke as a disciplined person who is also deeply caring, Ronke said the actress prefers to help people quietly and move on without seeking recognition.
“Funke Akindele is a good woman. She’s very strict oo, even Funke herself says it that she knows she’s strict, but if you know her well, you will know that despite her strictness, she is very, very kind.”
Ronke added that she would not disclose the amount Funke gave her during her illness because she considers such private assistance inappropriate to discuss publicly.
She further described Funke as a “generously good and blessed person”, saying her experience had shown her that the filmmaker is willing to support people facing difficult circumstances.
Funke Akindele is one of Nollywood’s prominent actresses and filmmakers, while Ronke Oshodi-Oke is a veteran actress with a long-standing career in the Nigerian film industry.
