Boko Urges Mares to Chase WAFCON Glory

President of Botswana, Duma Boko, has issued a rallying call to the country’s women’s national football team, the Mares, urging them to pursue glory at the upcoming 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
Led by head coach Gaolethloo Nkutlwisang, the Mares are set to make only their second appearance at the prestigious continental tournament.
Their debut outing at WAFCON, held in Morocco two years ago, ended in disappointment as the team failed to progress beyond the group stage.
In this year’s edition, Botswana finds itself in a tough Group B alongside record nine-time champions Nigeria, as well as Tunisia and Algeria.
Ahead of their departure to Morocco, President Boko hosted the team and delivered a spirited address, encouraging the players to give their best and bring pride to the nation.
“The best attitude to take into the field is to enjoy yourself. It’s about unity, team spirit, and trusting in your ability. Keep believing, and remember the whole country stands firmly behind you,” Boko told the squad.
Botswana will begin their 2024 WAFCON campaign against Algeria in Casablanca on Sunday, 6 July.
