Apapa Customs Breaks Revenue Record, Rakes In N28.1bn in One Day

The latest feat comes weeks after the command posted a record N323bn monthly revenue in July, as Customs says reforms and improved compliance are driving stronger collections…….

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Apapa Area Command, has posted its highest-ever single-day revenue collection after generating N28.1 billion within 24 hours on Tuesday, August 18, 2026.

The latest figure eclipses the command’s previous daily record of N20.1 billion, which was achieved in September 2025, not long after Emmanuel Oshoba assumed office as the Customs Area Controller of the command.

The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Wednesday by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Isah Sulaiman, a Chief Superintendent of Customs.

According to the statement, the new record further underlines the improvement in the command’s revenue performance, coming just weeks after Apapa Customs reported a record N323 billion in monthly revenue for July 2026.

The command attributed the recent gains to a combination of improved compliance among traders, stronger intelligence-driven interventions, enhanced trade facilitation and greater efficiency arising from the digitalisation of customs processes.

Speaking on the latest achievement, Oshoba said the significance of the record went beyond the amount collected, stressing that customs revenue ultimately contributes to the resources available to government to meet the needs of Nigerians.

He explained that funds generated by the NCS form part of government revenue used to support critical areas such as infrastructure, security, education and healthcare.

Oshoba commended the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, and the NCS management team for supporting reforms, automation and modernisation efforts aimed at improving the efficiency and transparency of customs operations.

The Apapa Customs controller dedicated the latest milestone to the government and people of Nigeria, while also recognising the role played by compliant importers, exporters, licensed customs agents and other stakeholders.

He particularly acknowledged Nigerians who have provided actionable intelligence to the service, noting that such cooperation has contributed to the command’s ability to improve revenue collection and tackle activities that undermine legitimate trade.

Oshoba urged stakeholders to continue supporting lawful trade, saying every compliant transaction contributes to the country’s economic development.

According to him, a stronger revenue base provides government with greater capacity to respond to public needs while creating an environment in which legitimate businesses can operate and grow.

The Customs Area Controller, however, warned officers and men of the command against becoming complacent following the new record.

Rather than treating the achievement as an endpoint, he urged personnel to regard it as an additional responsibility to improve their performance and sustain the momentum.

He stressed that revenue generation must remain balanced with the fundamental responsibility of facilitating legitimate trade.

Oshoba directed customs personnel to maintain professionalism and transparency in their dealings with stakeholders and ensure that legitimate complaints and disputes are addressed without unnecessary delays.

He also cautioned against customs procedures becoming an avoidable obstacle to businesses engaged in lawful import and export activities.

The command said it would continue to pursue higher revenue collections while strengthening trade facilitation, professionalism, digital processes and collaboration with stakeholders.

With the latest N28.1 billion single-day collection coming on the heels of the N323 billion July monthly record, Apapa Customs is positioning the recent figures as evidence of a sustained improvement in its revenue-generating capacity rather than a one-off achievement.

The command said its focus would now be on maintaining the momentum while ensuring that revenue collection continues to support the broader economic interests of Nigeria.
