Wike-Backed Rainbow Coalition Promises Inclusive Reconciliation in Rivers State

The reconciliation process between rival political camps in Rivers State has gained fresh momentum, with the Nyesom Wike-led Rainbow Coalition assuring stakeholders that no member of the political family will be victimised or sidelined over past disagreements.

The assurance followed a meeting between members of the coalition’s Reconciliation Committee, Governor Siminalayi Fubara and other key stakeholders at the Rivers State Government House in Port Harcourt on Sunday.

Chairman of the committee, Senator Magnus Abe, said the reconciliation effort was making significant progress, with all sides working towards a framework that would allow former political rivals to reunite and operate as one political family.

Abe said the committee considered it important to brief Rivers residents on the progress of the talks, particularly as expectations grow for an end to the prolonged political divisions that have shaped the state’s political landscape.

According to him, the emerging rapprochement represents a major shift in Rivers politics and could pave the way for greater stability, cooperation and development if sustained.

The development was welcomed by APC South-South Publicity Secretary Samuel Nwanosike, who praised Governor Fubara for opening the Government House to the reconciliation team. He described the meeting as an important step towards rebuilding trust and restoring unity among the previously divided political camps.

Another stakeholder and ally of Governor Fubara, Ambrose Nwuzi, said supporters of the governor had embraced reconciliation, stressing that resolving the political differences was more important than dwelling on past disputes.

Nwuzi indicated that the reconciliation process had reached an advanced stage, with formal endorsement by Wike expected to represent one of the final steps in consolidating the agreement.

The meeting was attended by Governor Fubara, APC governorship candidate Kingsley Chinda, former Chief of Staff to the governor Edison Ehie and other prominent political figures.

The latest engagement marks the second meeting between Fubara and members of the reconciliation committee in roughly two weeks, underscoring the growing efforts to bridge the political divide in Rivers State.

The renewed rapprochement comes against the backdrop of years of tension between Wike and Fubara, whose political relationship deteriorated sharply after Fubara became governor. Recent developments, however, suggest that both camps are increasingly seeking common ground and a more unified political direction ahead of the 2027 elections.
