West Ham sack head coach Nuno Espírito Santo with immediate effect

West Ham United have dismissed head coach Nuno Espírito Santo following an assessment of the club’s performance at the start of the EFL Championship season.

The club confirmed the decision in a statement published on its official website on Tuesday, explaining that a managerial change was required to keep its targets and expectations on course.

“Following a thorough review of the start to the EFL Championship season, the Board of Directors believe that a change is necessary at this time in order to ensure that the Club’s objectives and expectations remain on track,” the statement said.

Assistant head coach Rui Pedro Silva and goalkeeping coach Rui Barbosa have also departed alongside Espírito Santo.

West Ham expressed gratitude to the three coaches for their “hard work and commitment” and wished them success in their future careers.

The club confirmed that efforts to appoint a new head coach were already underway.

In the interim, Mark Noble, Steve Potts and Gerard Prenderville will oversee preparations for the squad ahead of Tuesday evening’s Championship encounter with Cardiff City.
