Verydarkman Slams Silence Over Phyna’s Sister’s Death After Dangote Truck Accident
The activist accused Nigerians, bloggers, and authorities of ignoring Ruth Otabor’s plight during her 19-day hospital battle.
Nigerian activist Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as Verydarkman (VDM), has reacted sharply to the death of Ruth Otabor, the younger sister of reality TV star Phyna, who died after being struck by a Dangote truck in Auchi, Edo State.
Ruth, who was hit by the truck allegedly driven by an unlicensed driver, passed away on Sunday, August 31, 2025, after struggling for her life in the hospital for 19 days.
In a video shared on Instagram, VDM criticised the silence of Nigerians, bloggers, and government agencies during Ruth’s fight for survival, noting that her case only drew widespread attention after her death.
“She was alive for 19 days yet nobody spoke up. Now that she is gone, everybody wants to talk, post, and trend the story. If we had raised the alarm earlier, maybe Dangote Group would have been forced to act faster,” he said.
The activist argued that timely pressure on the Dangote Group could have led to faster intervention and possibly changed the outcome. He condemned the company’s alleged practice of employing unlicensed drivers, calling it a sign of negligence with deadly consequences.
VDM also held the Nigerian government responsible, accusing authorities of failing to enforce accountability and protect citizens from such systemic failures.
“This is another example of how government institutions and big corporations continue to fail ordinary Nigerians,” he stressed.
Ruth’s death has sparked conversations online about road safety, corporate responsibility, and the value placed on Nigerian lives.
