Tonto Dikeh warns of growing drug addiction among Nigerian youths
Nollywood actress and evangelist Tonto Dikeh has raised the alarm over the growing problem of drug addiction among young people, warning of its devastating impact on individuals, families and society.
Dikeh expressed her concerns in a post on Instagram, describing substance abuse as a major threat to the future of the younger generation.
She noted that drug dependence often develops from seemingly harmless situations, including curiosity, peer influence and attempts to cope with emotional pain.
According to the actress, prolonged substance abuse can rob young people of their health, ambitions and relationships, while exposing them to life-threatening consequences.
She also stressed that the effects extend beyond those struggling with addiction, placing emotional and social burdens on their families and wider communities.
Calling for a more compassionate approach, Dikeh urged Nigerians to move away from stigmatising people battling addiction and instead encourage access to proper treatment and support.
She identified parents, schools, religious institutions, government authorities and young people themselves as key stakeholders in tackling the problem.
The actress further advocated increased public education and preventive efforts to discourage substance abuse, while encouraging those affected to seek professional help rather than face condemnation.
She concluded with a call for young people to reject drug abuse and embrace choices that protect their health and future.
