Tinubu Returns to Abuja After Two-Week Official Trip to Japan and Brazil

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu returned to Abuja in the early hours of Thursday after a two-week official visit to Japan and Brazil. His aircraft touched down at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport at exactly 1:20 a.m.

The President was warmly received by top government officials, including the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu; Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila; Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike; Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq; as well as several ministers and special advisers.

President Tinubu departed Abuja on Friday, August 15, 2025, making a brief stopover in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, before proceeding to Japan. While in Yokohama, Japan, he participated in the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 9), held from August 20 to 22.

During the summit, the President engaged in high-level bilateral meetings and held discussions with Japanese business leaders whose companies have existing or prospective investments in Nigeria.

Following his engagements in Japan, President Tinubu proceeded to Brasilia, Brazil, on a state visit at the invitation of Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. The visit further strengthened diplomatic and economic ties between the two countries.

With his return to Abuja, attention now turns to how the outcomes of his foreign engagements will translate into concrete gains for Nigeria’s economy and international partnerships.
