Taiwan’s China Airlines has placed an order for 14 Boeing aircraft, marking a key step in the airline’s expansion plans.
The firm order includes 10 Boeing 777-9 passenger jets and four 777-8 freighters from the 777X family. The airline has also secured an option to purchase an additional nine aircraft.
The new jets are expected to begin arriving in 2030, according to China Airlines. In a statement, Boeing Senior Vice President Brad McMullen expressed excitement, noting that the new 777Xs would feature the airline’s iconic plum blossom livery.
Although the companies did not disclose the value of the order, it comes amid Taiwan’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its trade relations with the United States.
Taiwan has sought to minimize the impact of tariffs, particularly after U.S. President Donald Trump imposed a 32% tariff on Taiwanese shipments last month, later pausing the levy for 90 days.
This deal follows China’s decision to cancel a previous purchase of Boeing aircraft in response to U.S. tariffs on Chinese products.
China Airlines’ order also comes during a challenging period for Boeing, which has faced production setbacks, quality control issues, and workforce reductions.
Boeing’s long-term prospects hinge on recovering from these disruptions, and China Airlines’ commitment signals a positive step forward for the manufacturer.
