Rivers United react to NPFL sanctions over Rangers broadcast disruption

Rivers United have acknowledged the Nigeria Premier Football League’s (NPFL) disciplinary ruling over the disruption of live coverage during their matchday 11 encounter against Rangers.
In a statement issued by the club’s Media Director, Charles Mayuku, the Port Harcourt side confirmed receiving the decision, noting that its actions were preceded by discussions aimed at ensuring proper match conduct and protecting stakeholders.
The club reaffirmed its commitment to professionalism and compliance with the league’s regulatory, commercial and broadcasting policies.
However, Rivers United called for equitable live broadcast coverage across all 20 clubs, warning that selective exposure could hinder the league’s growth.
The NPFL had imposed a suspended N15 million fine, alongside a three-point and three-goal deduction, over the obstruction of live coverage of Sunday’s home fixture against Rangers.
The sanctions will only take effect if the club repeats the offence during the current season.
