Kalu Urges South-East to End Political Isolation, Back Tinubu’s Re-election

The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, has called on the people of the South-East to adopt a more strategic approach to politics, warning that the region cannot achieve sustainable economic prosperity through political isolation.

Kalu made the appeal on Thursday in Umuahia, Abia State, during the inauguration of members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council in the state at the International Conference Centre.

Addressing party leaders, stakeholders and supporters, the Deputy Speaker urged the Igbo to apply the same strategic thinking that has driven their business success and economic influence to their political choices.

He cautioned against allowing sentiments to determine political decisions, stressing the need for the South-East to be actively involved in national affairs and decision-making.

According to Kalu, the region’s economic growth is closely linked to Nigeria’s overall development, adding that the South-East must have a voice in decisions shaping the country’s future.

He also highlighted what he described as President Bola Tinubu’s goodwill towards the Igbo, contrasting the administration’s approach with those of previous governments.

The Deputy Speaker said democracy required leaders to present an account of their performance to the electorate and seek renewed public support for their policies and programmes.

He urged residents of Abia State and the wider South-East not to remain on the sidelines of national politics, noting that the region had a significant stake in Nigeria’s political and economic future.

Kalu further called on APC members and supporters to unite behind President Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027, describing strategic political participation as an investment in the region’s future.

He expressed appreciation to the party’s candidates, leaders, stakeholders and members who attended the inauguration, urging them to sustain their mobilisation efforts.

Kalu said continued support for Tinubu would enable the administration to consolidate its Renewed Hope Agenda and deepen the impact of its policies and reforms on the lives of Nigerians.
