The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kebbi State has condemned the alleged destruction of its campaign signboard and posters in Argungu and Birnin Kebbi, describing the incidents as acts capable of heightening political tension in the state.
The party’s State Publicity Secretary, Isah Abubakar Assalafi, made the condemnation in a statement in which he alleged that some supporters of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) were responsible for the vandalism.
Assalafi described the development as unfortunate, stressing that political differences should not translate into hostility or the destruction of campaign materials belonging to rival parties.
He urged political parties and their supporters to respect one another’s rights to engage in lawful political activities, noting that peaceful participation was essential to maintaining political stability.
The APC spokesman also appealed to party members not to take matters into their own hands or retaliate over the alleged destruction. He urged them to remain calm and allow the appropriate authorities to investigate the incidents.
He called on security agencies to conduct a thorough investigation and ensure that anyone found responsible was dealt with in accordance with the law.
Assalafi further appealed to the ADC leadership to caution its supporters against actions capable of undermining peaceful political engagement and to ensure that party activities across the state were conducted with mutual respect.
He said political parties had a responsibility to promote tolerance and encourage healthy competition rather than resort to intimidation, provocation or violence.
The APC reaffirmed its commitment to peaceful political activities and respect for the rights of other parties, urging stakeholders to work together to sustain an atmosphere of political tolerance in Kebbi State.
The party maintained that disagreements should be resolved through lawful channels, rather than actions capable of disrupting public peace.
