PRP kicks against Bauchi’s proposed N298bn loan

The Peoples Redemption Party, PRP, in Bauchi State has opposed the state government’s reported plan to borrow N298.15 billion, warning that the move could further increase the state’s debt burden ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The party made its position known in a statement signed by its State Secretary, Abubakar Sani, and made available to journalists in Bauchi.

The PRP expressed concern that the proposed borrowing would add to the state’s existing debt of N441.69 billion, urging Governor Bala Mohammed to suspend the plan and explain how previous loans had been utilised.

It also called for greater transparency in the management of public funds as the state prepares for the 2027 elections.

The party further accused some traditional rulers of supporting the ruling Allied Peoples Movement, APM, and interfering with opposition political activities, particularly in rural communities.

However, it commended traditional rulers who had maintained political neutrality and urged others to treat all parties fairly, warning that using traditional institutions to restrict opposition activities could generate tension within communities.

On the legal front, the PRP criticised reported court cases involving the party and its governorship candidate, Senator Shehu Buba Umar, saying it had not received formal notice of the latest suit.

The party described the cases as attempts to distract its leadership, claiming that previous suits against its candidate at state and federal high courts had been dismissed.

It expressed confidence in its ability to challenge the latest case while reaffirming its commitment to the 2027 governorship election.

The PRP also declared its support for Senator Shehu Buba, describing him as capable of managing the state’s resources and providing effective leadership.

The party pledged to continue its political activities within the law and present what it called a credible alternative to Bauchi residents in 2027.
