Prince Harry Cleared of Bullying Allegations in Sentebale Charity Row
Prince Harry has been formally cleared of bullying allegations by the UK Charity Commission, following a widely publicised dispute within Sentebale, the African charity he co-founded nearly two decades ago.
In a report released on Wednesday, the Commission concluded that it found no evidence of bullying, harassment, misogyny, or misogynoir within the organisation.
The findings come after a months-long inquiry into internal tensions that rocked the charity earlier this year.
The investigation was triggered by public accusations made in March and April by Sentebale’s chairperson, Sophie Chandauka, who alleged that Prince Harry had engaged in bullying behaviour amid internal governance disputes.
The situation escalated when both Harry and his co-founder, Prince Seeiso of Lesotho, resigned from the board—following a wave of trustee resignations and mounting pressure on Chandauka to step down, which she declined.
While clearing Prince Harry of any misconduct, the Charity Commission issued strong criticism over the charity’s internal dysfunction, noting that the public nature of the leadership fallout had “severely impacted the organisation’s reputation.”
The regulator also identified governance failures, including unclear delegation of duties, poor administrative oversight, and communication breakdowns at board level.
In response, Sentebale has welcomed the Commission’s findings and confirmed its commitment to adopting the regulator’s recommended reforms.
Chairperson Chandauka, who assumed leadership in 2023 and remains in post, expressed appreciation for the investigation’s focus on governance concerns. However, she did not directly address the Commission’s dismissal of the bullying accusations.
Prince Harry, who co-founded Sentebale in 2006 to support children and young people affected by HIV/AIDS in Lesotho and Botswana, has not made a public statement following the release of the report.
The charity, launched in memory of his late mother, Princess Diana, has long been one of Harry’s most personal philanthropic endeavours.
The Commission’s verdict marks a significant turning point for Sentebale, as it seeks to rebuild credibility and refocus on its humanitarian mission after months of damaging headlines.
