Wike rejects PDP–APM alliance claim, criticises Seyi Makinde’s presidential ambition.

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has described the presidential ambition of Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, as “dead on arrival”.

Wike made the remark while reacting to a reported alliance between a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) said to be backed by Makinde and the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), during a rally held in Ibadan on Thursday. At the event, Makinde reportedly declared his intention to contest the 2027 presidential election under a PDP–APM arrangement.

However, Wike dismissed the claim, insisting that no such alliance exists within the PDP.

He alleged that the Ibadan gathering was organised to advance Makinde’s personal presidential ambition under the APM platform, which he also described as unrealistic.

“What you have is Makinde joining APM to be able to actualise his presidential ambition, which is already dead on arrival”, Wike said.

The minister spoke to journalists after inspecting the 13-kilometre Gomani to Yangoje road project in Kwali Area Council, Abuja. He further maintained that neither the PDP nor the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is aware of any PDP–APM alliance, describing the claim as a political fabrication.

“There’s no alliance between PDP and APM or any other political party, as the case may be. INEC also knows that there’s nothing called the PDP–APM alliance”, he added.

Wike also pointed to ongoing party activities, including the screening of aspirants, as evidence that the PDP remains independent and has not entered into any coalition arrangement.
