Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, has dismissed reports claiming he plans to defect to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), urging the public to disregard any such statements not originating from his official channels.
In a press release issued Tuesday by Ibrahim Umar of the Peter Obi Media Reach (POMR), Obi reaffirmed his continued alignment with the African Democratic Congress (ADC), countering online claims suggesting otherwise.
“Mr. Obi has always been clear and consistent in his political stance, particularly concerning the ongoing coalition talks,” the statement read. “He has not authorized any statement implying a switch to the PDP or any other party.”
The former Anambra State governor emphasized that he remains focused on his political mission and warned against attempts to misrepresent him for ulterior motives.
“The public should treat any political statement not released through his verified media office or social media platforms as false,” the statement added.
The clarification comes amid a wave of speculation regarding potential realignments ahead of the 2027 elections. Obi’s camp reiterated that only official channels should be considered reliable sources for his political communications.
