Afam Osigwe, SAN, has bowed out as President of the Nigerian Bar Association, with Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya, SAN, inaugurated as the 33rd president of the association.
Badejo-Okusanya was inaugurated on Friday, formally taking over the leadership of the NBA from Osigwe at a ceremony in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
The transition marks the end of Osigwe’s tenure and the commencement of Badejo-Okusanya’s two-year term as president.
Badejo-Okusanya’s emergence is historic, as she becomes the first woman to be directly elected president of the Nigerian Bar Association.
She was elected during the NBA’s 2026 national elections, defeating other contenders to emerge as the association’s new leader.
In her new role, Badejo-Okusanya is expected to focus on advancing the interests and welfare of lawyers, strengthening the rule of law and promoting reforms within Nigeria’s legal profession.
The inauguration also marks a new chapter for the NBA as the association begins its 2026–2028 administration.
