2027 Presidency: Ekiti PDP rejects APM alliance, distances party from Makinde

The Ekiti State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party has disowned moves to mobilise its members for Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde’s presidential ambition ahead of the 2027 general election.

The party also rejected any alliance with the Allied Peoples Movement, saying it neither authorised nor entered into any agreement with the APM.

The development follows reported moves by some PDP leaders in the state to align the party’s structures with the APM in support of Makinde’s presidential bid.

But the Ekiti PDP said such an arrangement did not have the backing of its leadership.

In a statement issued in Ado-Ekiti, the state PDP chairman, Lanre Omolase, accused Makinde of repeatedly betraying the party and said the Ekiti chapter would not support what he described as “treachery.”

Omolase said the Ekiti PDP had completely distanced itself from the APM and any purported presidential mobilisation project for Makinde.

He warned individuals and groups against appropriating the name and structures of the Ekiti PDP to pursue personal political interests.

The chairman stressed that only recognised organs of the party could authorise alliances or communicate its official position on the 2027 elections.

Omolase urged PDP members and supporters in the state to disregard any purported mobilisation for the Makinde-APM project, insisting that the party remained committed to its established structure and due process.

He also advised political actors seeking the support of PDP members to engage the recognised leadership rather than relying on individuals claiming to control the party’s grassroots structures.
