In a landmark move to strengthen internal security, the Nigeria Police Trust Fund (NPTF) has commissioned a state-of-the-art divisional police headquarters in Mpape, Abuja.
The smart facility is aimed at enhancing police presence and responsiveness in one of the Federal Capital Territory’s fastest-growing communities.
Commissioned on Wednesday, the modern station is equipped with advanced surveillance systems, solar power infrastructure, integrated firefighting systems, and a sustainable water supply—signaling a shift toward smart policing and community-based law enforcement.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Executive Secretary of the NPTF, Mr. Mohammed Sheidu, described the facility as “a beacon of hope, peace, and partnership” between the police and the community. He said the initiative underscores the federal government’s commitment to professionalizing the Nigerian Police Force and bridging critical resource gaps.
“This smart police station is more than just bricks and mortar—it’s a symbol of progress and a pledge of protection for the people of Mpape,” Sheidu declared. “We are committed to transforming policing from the ground up with facilities that inspire trust and improve service delivery.”
The event was attended by top government officials and security stakeholders, including the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Police Affairs, Dr. Anuma Ogbonnaya Nlia, who represented the Minister of Police Affairs, Dr. Ibrahim Gaidam. Senator Binos Dauda Yaroe, representing the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Police Affairs, also delivered remarks, alongside AIG Victor Olaiya, who stood in for the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.
Dr. Nlia praised the NPTF for its targeted interventions, describing the project as “a morale booster for officers and a crucial step toward securing local communities.” Senator Yaroe echoed this sentiment, noting that such grassroots investments are vital for tackling insecurity and curbing criminal activity at the community level.
“This is precisely why the National Assembly enacted the Police Trust Fund Act—to empower the Force with resources that meet modern security demands,” Senator Yaroe said.
In a strong charge to officers assigned to the new station, Sheidu urged them to uphold integrity, professionalism, and respect for human rights in their daily operations.
“Let this station be known for justice, prompt response, and community trust. You are not just law enforcers—you are protectors and partners of the people,” he said.
AIG Olaiya also emphasized the importance of professionalism and maintenance of the new facility, saying, “A modern station deserves modern policing—fair, efficient, and people-centered.”
Constructed by the NPTF in collaboration with the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), the station features a 30kVA solar inverter unit, borehole, overhead water tank, perimeter fencing, a gatehouse, sentry post, and dedicated parking space. The renewable energy integration aligns with the government’s push toward sustainable infrastructure, ensuring uninterrupted power for critical operations.
Community leaders and residents, including the traditional ruler of Katampe, expressed deep gratitude for what they described as a long-overdue response to the community’s security concerns.
“This smart station is not just a government project—it’s a lifeline for our community,” the traditional ruler noted.
The commissioning of the Mpape police station represents one of the NPTF’s strategic efforts to modernize policing in Nigeria, with plans underway to replicate the model in other high-demand locations across the country.
