The Nigeria Judo Federation Caretaker Committee has pledged to conduct its forthcoming elections fairly and transparently, assuring stakeholders that it will maintain neutrality throughout the transition.
Committee Chairman Sheriff Hammed stated this in a release addressing recent public reactions and reports concerning the panel’s responsibilities and operations.
He explained that while the committee operates under the National Sports Commission, it remains committed to making independent decisions in the interest of Nigerian judo.
“The Caretaker Committee is not a mouthpiece for any individual, group or interest, nor is it a platform for advancing personal or political agendas,” the statement read in part.
The committee acknowledged receiving complaints and information regarding the actions of some individuals associated with the previous board. However, it stressed that allegations, personal interests and existing biases would not determine the outcome of the process. It said all decisions would be guided by transparency, fairness, due process and equal opportunity.
As part of efforts to guarantee equal participation, the committee confirmed that all eligible aspirants would be allowed to obtain nomination forms and contest, provided they satisfy the requirements outlined in the NJF Statutes and other governance regulations. It added that no candidate would be denied participation on the basis of personal disputes, affiliations or considerations outside the established guidelines.
The panel also cautioned against attempts to interfere with or compromise the electoral process, warning that anyone found to have violated the rules or undermined the election’s integrity could face appropriate sanctions, including disqualification where legally justified.
It urged state associations, athletes, coaches, referees and other stakeholders to contribute to a peaceful and orderly transition.
“We urge all parties to pursue their interests through the appropriate channels, respect established procedures and refrain from actions capable of undermining the credibility of the electoral process,” the statement added.
The committee reaffirmed its commitment to improving accountability, rebuilding trust in the federation and establishing a strong foundation for the long-term development of judo in Nigeria.
