Nigerian Govt, Paramilitary Agencies Sign One-Year Performance Deals

The Federal Government on Saturday signed one-year performance contracts with key paramilitary agencies, directing them to achieve 100 percent targets under the ongoing reforms aimed at enhancing service delivery and institutional efficiency.

The agencies involved include the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Federal Fire Service (FFS), and the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), which now operates under the Ministry of Interior.

Focus Areas for Reform

The performance contracts are expected to drive reforms in several critical areas, including:

  • Passport and visa processing under the NIS

  • Prison decongestion and inmate rehabilitation in line with global standards

  • Protection of critical national assets and infrastructure

  • Firefighting and emergency response reforms

These measures are designed to strengthen institutional capacity, improve efficiency, and deliver better public services in line with the agencies’ respective mandates.

Signing Ceremony and Oversight

The contracts were signed by Prof. Abubakar Audi, Commandant General of the NSCDC; Mr. Sylvester Nwakuche, Controller General of the NCoS; and Mr. Samuel Adeyemi, Commandant General of the FFS.

The Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Mrs. Kemi Nanna Nandap, was unable to sign as she is currently outside the country.

Supervising the ceremony, the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, stressed the government’s determination to see the reforms through to completion:

“These reforms must be implemented to their logical conclusion, and we expect nothing less than 100 percent performance from all agencies,” he said.

The contracts were signed at the end of a three-day retreat held at Zuma Rock Resort, Suleja, Niger State, where stakeholders reviewed strategic priorities and performance benchmarks for the year ahead.
