Mohbad’s Legacy Lives On Through Our Son – Wife Wunmi Declares

At the 2025 Headies Awards, emotions ran high as Wunmi, wife of the late Nigerian artist Mohbad, accepted the Best Street-Hop Song award on his behalf for his popular track “Ask About Me.” Joined on stage by their two-year-old son Liam, Mohbad’s younger brother Adura, and members of the Imolenization team, Wunmi delivered a touching tribute that reminded fans of the singer’s enduring legacy.

In her acceptance speech, Wunmi shared heartfelt words: “On behalf of myself, my son Liam, Adura, and the entire Imolenization family, we thank you for honoring Mohbad. Though he’s no longer here physically, he lives on in all of us.”

Visibly emotional, she added, “I don’t like calling him my ‘late husband’ because he still lives—especially through our son. Liam may be too young to understand now, but I know one day he will realize the impact his father made through his music and how deeply his voice continues to resonate with people.”

Since Mohbad’s untimely passing in 2023, Wunmi has faced a turbulent journey marked by public and private challenges, particularly surrounding disputes with Mohbad’s father. One of the most widely discussed issues has been the demand for a DNA test on Liam, a controversy that dominated headlines for months. Wunmi, who firmly insisted the test was unnecessary, later called on Mohbad’s father to facilitate it—an effort she claims was never followed through.

Adding to the weight of grief and legal battles, Mohbad’s burial remains unresolved. Despite the time that has passed since his death, the singer has yet to be laid to rest. Wunmi has expressed her frustration over the ongoing delays, which she attributes to family disagreements—especially with Mohbad’s father—making it difficult to find closure.

Through it all, Wunmi continues to stand as a pillar for her son and for Mohbad’s memory, determined to preserve the legacy of an artist whose voice still echoes in the hearts of fans.
