The Osun State Government says Governor Ademola Adeleke’s endorsement of President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid should not be viewed as a betrayal of the people of the state.
Special Adviser and Spokesperson to the Governor, Olawale Rasheed, said the endorsement was made before Adeleke’s victory in the Osun governorship election.
“When Mr. Governor was within the PDP, the endorsement was announced. When he crossed over to Accord, the endorsement was announced. So the endorsement predates this election victory’, Rasheed said.
He explained that Adeleke’s decision was driven by the need to attract federal support and accelerate development projects in Osun State.
Rasheed cited ongoing federal road projects as evidence of the benefits of the relationship between the governor and the President.
“The need to attract federal presence. The need to get most of the roads in Osun’s federal project done, and the need to support a man that is on the seat that can do this for us”, he said.
He listed the Ilesa-Ibadan, Osogbo-Ibadan and Gbongan-Osogbo roads among federal projects either under construction or awarded in the state.
Rasheed maintained that Adeleke’s support for Tinubu was based on what he described as the best interests of the people of Osun.
