Despite losing the Osun State governorship election, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Oyebamiji, says he respects the decision of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
In a statement on Tuesday, Oyebamiji said he supports the party’s ongoing review of the election outcome while thanking supporters and party leaders for their commitment to his campaign.
“Although, we had hoped for a different outcome in the election, in the meantime, we respect the position of the electoral umpire and I totally support the decision of our party in its ongoing review of the outcome of the election”, he said.
He said the end of the election would not end the campaign for effective and inclusive development in Osun State. Oyebamiji also urged his supporters to remain peaceful and committed to the collective interest of the state.
He, however, raised concerns over alleged attacks on APC members and supporters, calling on the government and security agencies to intervene.
“At the same time, I wish to alert the State Government and security agents to the growing trend of hostility and violence against our members and supporters”, he said.
The APC candidate thanked voters, volunteers and party members for their support and said he remained proud of the campaign they ran.
