The Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, has inaugurated the newly constituted Governing Board of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) as part of efforts to reposition the maritime sector as a key driver of Nigeria’s economic development.
The inauguration ceremony took place on Monday at the ministry’s conference room in Abuja, according to an official statement.
Oyetola described the inauguration as a crucial step to strengthen the governance framework of the NPA and align it with President Bola Tinubu’s broader vision to reform and revitalize critical government institutions.
Highlighting the administration’s commitment to institutional reforms, the former Osun State governor stressed that these efforts aim to enhance trade facilitation, improve transparency, and unlock the full potential of Nigeria’s marine and blue economy in an inclusive and sustainable manner.
The Minister also clarified the distinct roles within the NPA governance structure, noting that the Governing Board is responsible for critical policy oversight particularly in staffing and budgeting carried out through the Board’s staff and establishment committee and finance committee.
However, he emphasized that day-to-day management remains the exclusive domain of the Managing Director and executive management team, underlining the importance of maintaining clear boundaries between governance and operational management to ensure efficiency.
Speaking for the Board, its Chairman, Senator Adedayo Adeyeye, expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for the confidence shown in the Board members. He praised the diverse expertise of the team and reaffirmed their commitment to advancing the sector.
