Following the alleged disappearance of an armed robbery suspect from police custody, the Anambra State Police Command has commenced disciplinary action against three officers.
The Commissioner of Police, Nnanna Ama, has ordered the immediate issuance of queries to the Divisional Police Officer of the 3-3 Police Station and a Deputy Superintendent of Police over their failure to account for the whereabouts of the arrested suspect.
Ama issued the directive on Monday, according to a statement released on Tuesday by the command’s spokesperson, Superintendent Tochukwu Ikenga.
Ikenga said the commissioner took the decision after personally interviewing the complainant and the officers involved, following the circulation of a viral video alleging that an armed robbery suspect arrested and brought to the station could no longer be accounted for.
The police chief also ordered the immediate commencement of disciplinary proceedings against an inspector in connection with the incident.
Ama described the allegation as serious, warning that such incidents could undermine public confidence in the police and its ability to maintain law and order.
He stressed that the command would not tolerate any form of unprofessional conduct, dereliction of duty, abuse of office or breach of established procedures by its personnel.
The command said the affected officers would face appropriate sanctions if found culpable after the conclusion of the disciplinary process.
