Kwankwaso, Obi Allies Reportedly Set to NDC Amid ADC Uncertainty

Fresh indications have emerged that former Kano State governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, may soon dump the African Democratic Congress as talks over a possible alliance with the Nigeria Democratic Congress gather momentum.

The development was disclosed by the spokesperson of the Kwankwasiyya movement, Habibu Mohammed, who said consultations with political stakeholders across Kano and beyond had largely favoured a switch to a new platform.

According to him, negotiations between Kwankwaso’s camp and the NDC are nearing conclusion, with only a few outstanding issues yet to be resolved.

Mohammed added that Kwankwaso, Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi and several political allies are expected to formally unveil their next political move early next week.

He explained that leaders and representatives of the movement from the 44 local government areas of Kano State recently met and agreed that remaining in the ADC was no longer politically convenient ahead of future elections.

The spokesperson blamed the decision on the lingering leadership crisis rocking the ADC, noting that the party continues to face legal battles and internal disputes that have created uncertainty among members.

He referenced the recent Supreme Court decision returning the ADC leadership tussle to a lower court, saying the unresolved matter could drag on and affect the party’s stability.

Mohammed also expressed concern over the Independent National Electoral Commission’s deadline for submission of party membership registers, warning that prolonged legal disputes within the ADC could complicate preparations for upcoming elections.
