As part of efforts to strengthen ties with host communities, the Nigerian Army has conducted a medical outreach for residents of Birnin Yero in Kaduna State.
Commander of the Infantry Corps, Maj.-Gen. Godwin Mutkut, disclosed this on Saturday during the outreach organised in commemoration of the 2026 Combat Arms Training Week.
He explained that the exercise was jointly carried out by the Nigerian Army Infantry Corps Centre and the Corps of Armour as part of activities lined up for the training week.
According to him, Birnin Yero shares close proximity with the Jaji Military Cantonment, making peaceful coexistence and mutual support between both communities necessary.
“We sincerely thank God for the opportunity to reach out to our immediate neighbours in Birnin Yero. From Birnin Yero to Jaji is not far, and we are connected in many ways”, he said.
Mutkut noted that the outreach covered treatment of ailments such as malaria, upper respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, hypertension, diabetes, sore throat, eye infections, ear, nose and throat conditions, as well as refractive eye defects requiring corrective glasses.
He added that residents also benefited from free medical tests including blood sugar checks, hepatitis B and C screening, and malaria parasite tests.
In his remarks, the Village Head of Birnin Yero, Alhaji Aburajab Usman, commended the Nigerian Army for the gesture, describing it as impactful and appreciated the continued support to the community.
