Klopp Warns Wirtz of Pressure Following £116m Liverpool Move

Former Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp has issued a cautionary note to new summer recruit Florian Wirtz regarding the weight of expectations that come with joining the Premier League champions. The Reds are set to pay £116 million to Bayer Leverkusen for the 22-year-old attacking midfielder, making him the most expensive British player in history.

Klopp expressed concern that the hefty transfer fee could make Wirtz a target for criticism. Despite this, he praised the German international as an “outstanding player” and emphasized that Wirtz is likely conscious of the pressure his record-breaking fee will bring.

Speaking to Welt, Klopp stated, “There’s no question about it, it’s an insane sum, and one that a player at Liverpool is aware of if things don’t go well for two or three games. He’s an outstanding player who can give any club something great. Whether he’ll make the reigning English champions even better remains to be seen.”
