The England national team has been dealt a significant personnel blow following the departure of eight key squad members ahead of their upcoming international fixtures. In an official communication released by the Football Association on Saturday evening, it was confirmed that a substantial group—including a high-profile trio from Arsenal and a veteran Manchester City defender—would be withdrawing from the current camp.
Midfield anchor Declan Rice and winger Bukayo Saka have both returned to their club for “medical assessment,” raising concerns regarding their fitness levels. They are joined by fellow Gunner Noni Madueke, whose exit follows a worrying sight at Wembley Stadium on Friday; the attacker was seen leaving the arena in a knee brace after sustaining an injury during the opening half of England’s 1-1 stalemate against Uruguay.
The injury list extends beyond the North London contingent. Crystal Palace’s rising star Adam Wharton is also sidelined after suffering a “knock” during the same physical encounter with the South American side. Furthermore, Manchester City’s John Stones has been forced to withdraw after “picking up an issue in training,” adding to the defensive concerns for the technical crew.
Due to these various physical setbacks, none of the mentioned players will be available for selection when England faces Japan in a friendly match this Tuesday. The medical staff will now focus on coordinating with the respective Premier League clubs to manage the recovery of the departing athletes.
