The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise for the 2025 general elections will officially commence on Monday, August 18.
The electoral body made the announcement on Friday via its official X (formerly Twitter) account, confirming that online pre-registration for eligible voters will kick off on that date through its portal: cvr.inecnigeria.org.
According to INEC, physical (in-person) registration will follow a week later, beginning on Monday, August 25. This phase will take place at all INEC local government area offices across the country, as well as at designated registration centers.
The commission stated that the exercise will run weekdays only, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Monday to Friday.
INEC also reminded the public that voter registration is the first and most crucial step toward participating in the electoral process, urging citizens not to miss the opportunity to register.
It further cautioned against acts of electoral malpractice, including underage registration and multiple registrations, both of which are prohibited and subject to penalties.
“Your vote begins with registration. Don’t miss your chance,” INEC said in the post.
