Rangers’ technical adviser, Fidelis Ilechukwu, has expressed his disappointment following his team’s elimination from the President Federation Cup. The Flying Antelopes were defeated 1-0 by Kwara United in the semi-final at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Onikan, Lagos, on Wednesday.
The only goal of the match came in the 48th minute, with Wasiu Alalade scoring for Kwara United. Rangers had hoped to claim the President Federation Cup after finishing as runners-up in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) to Remo Stars, but their aspirations were dashed.
Ilechukwu pointed to his team’s slow start as a key factor in the defeat. “This is a really tough loss for us as a team, but we accept it as part of football. It just wasn’t meant to be our day,” the young coach said after the match.
“Our first half wasn’t great, but we improved in the second half. Unfortunately, a defensive mistake cost us the game.”
