Group Decries Renewed Bandits’ Attacks in Southern Katsina

The Katsina State Chapter of the Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG) has strongly condemned the recent surge in violent attacks by armed bandits in the southern parts of the state, particularly affecting Funtua, Sabuwa, Kankara, and Faskari Local Government Areas.

In a statement issued on Friday and signed by the State Coordinator, Abdullahi Kabir, the group expressed deep concern over what it described as an alarming deterioration in security. Kabir recalled that on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, armed men brazenly stormed the General Hospital in Sabuwa LGA during daylight hours, disrupting medical services and leaving staff and patients traumatised.

Even more disturbing, he noted, was an attack the following evening Wednesday, May 14 when bandits struck in Funtua town during the Maghrib prayer, making away with over 50 cows and causing widespread panic among residents. The group emphasized the seriousness of such an attack occurring in a major urban center, underscoring the escalating threat posed by the criminals.

CNG further highlighted ongoing reports of bandit raids in several villages within Faskari and Kankara LGAs, where communities are now gripped by fear and uncertainty.

Describing these developments as “unacceptable,” the group called for immediate and decisive intervention. It urged security agencies to intensify surveillance, enhance intelligence operations, and implement rapid response strategies to protect lives and restore peace in the affected areas.
