At least five people have been killed in fresh attacks across Plateau State, including a senior police officer, despite a dusk-to-dawn curfew imposed by the state government in response to worsening security concerns.
The attacks occurred on Tuesday night in Barkin Ladi and Mangu Local Government Areas. In Barkin Ladi, a Chief Superintendent of Police attached to Operation Rainbow was killed along the Gagshi Road corridor, while three civilians reportedly lost their lives in a separate attack at Rakok.
The Plateau State Police Command says investigations are ongoing as security operatives intensify efforts to identify and apprehend those behind the attacks.
In Mangu, three residents reportedly keeping watch over Kyikyau community during the curfew period were also ambushed and killed by armed attackers.
The latest incidents have heightened concerns among residents, youth groups and civil society organisations, with renewed questions over compliance with and enforcement of the 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. curfew introduced to prevent further violence.
