A major police operation in southern Italy has uncovered more than three million euros in cash concealed inside the walls of a suspected drug lord’s home.
The discovery was made in Caivano, a suburb of Naples associated with the Camorra organised crime network. Investigators also recovered Kalashnikov rifles, other weapons and 11 Rolex watches.
Naples Prosecutor Nicola Gratteri said the seizure formed part of a wider investigation launched in 2023 into an alleged armed criminal network involved in drug trafficking.
The investigation culminated in the arrest of 34 people accused of belonging to the group and operating using mafia-style methods.
Authorities had seized the cash and weapons from the property last year after receiving information from a suspect arrested in July 2025 who later became a state witness.
Police searched the property extensively after being told that a large amount of money was hidden inside. Investigators eventually found bundles of cash packed into concealed compartments within the walls.
Other portions of the money were reportedly hidden beneath the floor and under the shower tray.
The investigation centred on an area of Caivano known for large-scale drug distribution, particularly cocaine trafficking.
Local media reported that the informant also told investigators the alleged drug lord’s wife was responsible for guarding the money, with their underage children reportedly involved in monitoring the stash around the clock.
