Four prominent Nigerians have secured spots on the latest Forbes Real-Time Billionaires List, underscoring the concentration of wealth in the country’s industrial and energy sectors.
Aliko Dangote, President of Dangote Group, leads the pack with a net worth of $24.4 billion, placing him at 88th globally. His wealth is more than three times that of the next Nigerian on the list, cement magnate Abdulsamad Rabiu, whose fortune stands at $7.2 billion and ranks 516th worldwide.
Telecommunications and oil tycoon Mike Adenuga follows closely with $6.3 billion (#592), while businessman Femi Otedola, with diverse investments in energy and utilities, rounds out the group at $1.5 billion (#2424).
Dangote’s dominance is unmatched, with his fortune outpacing Rabiu’s by a wide margin, nearly quadrupling Adenuga’s, and exceeding Otedola’s sixteenfold. His empire, built on cement, sugar, and most recently, a petroleum refinery launched in 2023, has kept him at the top of Africa’s wealth ranking for 14 consecutive years.
First appearing on Forbes’ billionaire list in 2008, Dangote briefly slipped off but reclaimed his place in 2011 and has since remained a fixture among the world’s wealthiest.
While Dangote captures the spotlight, Rabiu has consistently grown his cement and sugar businesses, Adenuga continues to thrive in telecoms and oil, and Otedola’s return to the list marks a resurgence in his energy-driven ventures.
Collectively, the four highlight Nigeria’s billionaire wealth as heavily concentrated in manufacturing, telecommunications, oil, and power. The ranking not only reflects their individual achievements but also signals the industries shaping Nigeria’s position in the global economic landscape.
