FG Postpones Special FEC for Buhari’s Honour Over Daura Burial

The Presidency has postponed the special Federal Executive Council (FEC) session earlier scheduled for Tuesday, July 15, in honour of former President Muhammadu Buhari.

According to a statement issued on Monday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the session has been deferred due to the state funeral scheduled for the same day in Daura, Katsina State.

“The meeting will no longer be held as announced earlier, given the state funeral in his hometown, Daura, on the same day,” the statement read. “The Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation will announce a new date after the funeral proceedings.”

The statement, titled “New Date for the Special Federal Executive Council Session in Honour of President Muhammadu Buhari to Be Announced”, also noted that Tuesday had been declared a public holiday in Buhari’s honour.

President Bola Tinubu had called for the special FEC meeting as a mark of respect for Buhari’s service to the nation. His remains are expected to arrive from London by noon on Tuesday, with burial scheduled later the same day in Daura, in accordance with Islamic rites.
