Federal High Court nullifies Atiku’s emergence as ADC presidential candidate

A major setback has hit the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ahead of the 2027 general elections, following a Federal High Court judgment nullifying the process that produced former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, as the party’s presidential candidate.

Delivering judgment on Thursday in Abuja, Justice Peter Lifu also voided the emergence of former Senate President David Mark, former Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola and other officials as members of the party’s national leadership.

The court further nullified the nominations of all ADC candidates for the 2027 elections, ruling that they emerged under an unlawfully constituted party leadership.

The judgment followed a suit filed by Nafiu Bala Gombe, an aggrieved Deputy National Chairman of the party.

Justice Lifu upheld Gombe’s argument that Mark, Aregbesola and other officials assumed their positions through an illegal process.

The judge consequently set aside all actions taken by the Mark-led leadership on behalf of the ADC, declaring them unlawful.
