Amid growing concerns over the safety of corps members, the police say adequate measures are being put in place to protect electoral personnel during the 2027 polls.
Police spokesman, Ani Iniedu, gave the assurance on Thursday during a joint security briefing by security and intelligence agencies at the Office of the National Security Adviser in Abuja.
He said the police had conducted a comprehensive threat assessment and were working with the Independent National Electoral Commission and other security agencies to protect election workers before, during and after the polls.
Iniedu disclosed that security deployments were being increased, while the Inspector-General of Police had ordered the immediate distribution of operational equipment and logistics.
He cited the Osun State election as an example of previous engagements with corps members, their parents and other stakeholders to address security concerns.
The police spokesman also warned political actors against hate speech, incitement and other activities capable of triggering electoral violence.
He revealed that 11 cases of hate speech had been documented, adding that the IGP had directed Commissioners of Police to ensure the arrest and prosecution of offenders.
He further disclosed that complaint channels had been established for members of the public to report police commissioners who fail to act against such offences.
