Political mobilisation is gathering momentum in Ekiti State as stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party and the Allied Peoples Movement rally support for Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde’s presidential ambition ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The stakeholders converged on Ado-Ekiti, the state capital, for an advocacy and awareness programme focused on strengthening the PDP-APM alliance and expanding support for Makinde at the grassroots.
The alliance was formalised in May 2026, with Makinde emerging as the APM presidential candidate for the 2027 election.
Convener of the alliance in Ekiti State, Lanre Fajuyi, described Makinde as the kind of leader Nigeria needs at this critical time. She called on PDP and APM members across the state to begin early grassroots mobilisation for his presidential bid.
The campaign is expected to target youths, women, artisans and other stakeholders across the state’s 16 local government areas.
Fajuyi said the initiative is aimed at building wider support for the alliance and promoting what she described as a government that would serve the interests of Nigerians.
PDP-APM South-West spokesperson, Sanya Atofarati, said the partnership was driven by the need to strengthen multi-party democracy and provide a viable opposition platform ahead of the elections.
He said the alliance would offer PDP members and other opposition groups an alternative platform amid the legal and political challenges confronting the PDP. Atofarati stressed the importance of a strong multi-party system to democratic governance and greater political participation ahead of 2027.
APM Vice Chairman in Ekiti State, Remilekun Solola, described the partnership as a strategic platform for building a credible opposition and mobilising support ahead of the general elections.
