Following the tensions and violence that surrounded the recent governorship election, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke is promising reconciliation and a more inclusive approach to governance.
In a state broadcast marking the 35th anniversary of Osun State, Adeleke acknowledged the loss of lives and injuries recorded during the electoral crisis and pledged to promote fairness.
“My people, as you have again conferred the leadership mandate on me under recent difficult circumstances, I promise to heal the wounds, unite the people and uphold equity and fairness”.
The governor announced a Commission of Inquiry into the electoral violence, which will receive memoranda from victims and affected residents.
He said the inquiry would identify the causes of the violence and recommend ways to prevent a recurrence, while a compensation fund would be established for victims, as he urged residents to avoid reprisals.
“Our administration is setting up a Commission of Inquiry on election violence. The body will take memorandum from all victims and residents who are affected by recent electoral violence. We must not engage in reprisal attacks”.
He commended voters for defending their democratic rights despite the tense atmosphere. The governor also pledged to consolidate his administration’s programmes in infrastructure, education, healthcare, agriculture, sports and the digital economy.
“Amidst reign of terror, you rejected the guns and embraced the ballot. The youth, women and students will continue to receive special attention”.
He called for continued cooperation from residents as his administration enters the next phase of its tenure.
