Butt Urges Manchester United to Pursue Osimhen for Striking Reinforcement

Manchester United legend Nicky Butt has formally advised his former club to prioritize the acquisition of Victor Osimhen from Galatasaray during the upcoming summer transfer window. The retired midfielder believes the Nigerian international possesses the necessary physical attributes to thrive in England and could serve as a vital catalyst for the development of fellow forward Benjamin Šeško.

According to Butt, the current striking options at Old Trafford require additional support to compete at the highest level. He argues that while Šeško is a valuable asset, the burden of leading the line for a club of United’s stature is too great for a single young player. The inclusion of a seasoned and physically dominant striker like Osimhen would not only solve the team’s scoring needs but also create a competitive environment that would elevate the performance of the entire attacking unit.

Analyzing the Super Eagles star’s profile, Butt noted that the forward’s successful spells in Italy and Turkey suggest he is well-equipped for the rigors of the Premier League. He further suggested that negotiating a deal with a Turkish Super Lig side might present a more feasible pathway for the Red Devils to secure a world-class “number nine.”

“I don’t think Sesko can carry the club up front on his own, they will need another no9,” Butt said as quoted by the Mirror UK.

“I don’t think he needs replacing, but someone better than him who can lift his game as well.

“I know Osimhen isn’t proven in the Premier League, but you look at his physicality and the way he plays football, he can definitely handle it.

“I think he’d be the one [Man United should go for]. You’d like to think that players from Turkish sides are gettable.

“I think he is powerful, quick, he can run in behind, he’s strong, he can score different types of goals, he’s good in the air.”
