Senator Ned Nwoko (APC–Delta North) has clarified that the growing call for the creation of Anioma State is not driven by political ambition, but by a longstanding pursuit of equity, justice, and cultural preservation.
Speaking in an interview with Newsmen in Abuja on Wednesday, Nwoko emphasized that the initiative transcends partisan interests, describing it as a generational aspiration anchored in cultural identity and self-determination.
“It has nothing to do with the politics of the APC or the PDP,” he stated. “Anioma has always maintained a distinct sense of self, despite being shaped by existing administrative boundaries.”
Nwoko, who represents Delta North Senatorial District and chairs the Senate Committee on Reparations and Repatriation, stressed that the push for Anioma State reflects the broader Nigerian ideal of inclusiveness and balanced representation in national governance.
He argued that the creation of Anioma would address long-standing structural imbalances in the South-East and provide the region’s people with the administrative autonomy to preserve their cultural heritage and accelerate local development.
The senator’s remarks come amid renewed debates over state creation and restructuring, with various ethnic nationalities across the country demanding greater autonomy and recognition within the Nigerian federation.
